Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist serves as both a strategic and hands-on partner to leadership, aligning HR practices with business goals and organizational culture. This role supports a wide range of HR functions including payroll, benefits, employee relations, talent development, recruiting, onboarding, and compliance, with a strong emphasis on California employment laws. The position plays a key role in enhancing employee experience and building engaged, high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

Business Partnership & Culture Engagement

  • Partner with leadership to strengthen team cohesion and communication
  • Promote and reinforce company culture and values
  • Recommend HR solutions that improve employee experience and operational effectiveness

Payroll, HRIS & Administration

  • Review timekeeping for accuracy and compliance
  • Process payroll using HRIS systems (e.g., Ceridian Dayforce)
  • Maintain HR data and generate reports for workforce planning
  • Ensure timekeeping aligns with California wage and hour laws, including overtime, meal/rest periods, and scheduling compliance

Benefits & Leave Management

  • Support benefits enrollment and employee inquiries
  • Administer and ensure compliance with California and federal leave programs including CFRA, FMLA, PDL, Paid Sick Leave, workers’ compensation, and disability coordination
  • Assist with 401(k) administration and compliance

Performance Management & Talent Development

  • Coach managers on goal-setting, feedback, and development
  • Identify training needs and support organizational development
  • Facilitate required compliance trainings

Policy & HR Programs

  • Maintain and update policies and employee handbooks
  • Lead engagement initiatives and culture-building programs
  • Support EEO/AA reporting and equitable practices

Employee Relations & California Compliance

  • Manage employee relations with a focus on fairness, empathy, and alignment with company culture
  • Lead investigations and handle employer matters in accordance with:
    • FEHA (Fair Employment and Housing Act)
    • CFRA and FMLA leave requirements
    • ADA/FEHA interactive process and accommodations
    • California Wage Orders and local ordinances
    • Meal and rest break compliance
    • Cal/OSHA regulations
  • Ensure HR practices align with company policies and maintain an ethical, safe, and inclusive workplace

Required Skills / Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Experience across multiple HR functions (recruiting, payroll, employee relations, benefits, HRIS, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, CFRA/FMLA, FEHA, PDL, meal/rest compliance, and Cal/OSHA requirements
  • Experience in manufacturing or fast-paced environments preferred
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., Ceridian Dayforce) and Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to speak and listen
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, and/or bend
  • May lift and/or move files or boxes up to 25 pounds
  • Regular use of a computer terminal for extended periods
  • May be required to sit for long durations
  • May work extended or irregular hours as needed
  • Subject to interruptions that may shift priorities and workflow

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communication, or a related field
